Partnership

The great aim of education is not knowledge but action. – Herbert Spence.

I love the partnerships we have developed at AKA as a result of our work with tribes, universities, non-profits, community-based organizations, and community members. This week I attended a meeting with a university partner and their faculty to develop a proposal for addressing disparities that we have identified through our evaluation efforts. In some ways I really miss the feel of academia, the dialogue and debate of methods, and the feeling that I get from meeting students, listening to “expert faculty”, and the lively discussions that provoke thoughts and questions about what is real and what is important. Over time I have come to value the different kinds of knowledge that our partners contribute. As school comes to an end for our little ones through our adults at college, I urge all of us to take what we have learned and do something with it!
