Crisis Stabilization and Safety Techniques: A Qualitative Evaluation with the Pueblo of Pojoaque 2022
This formative qualitative evaluation examined the Somatic Experiencing International’s (SEI) Indigenous-informed Crisis Stabilization and Safety (CSS) Resource Sessions at the Pueblo of Pojoaque. CSS is designed for frontline workers, first responders, and people dealing with intense pressure to create stabilization, safety, and support structures during a community-wide crisis. The Pueblo of Pojoaque collaborated with SEI to bring a culturally adapted version of CSS to the tribe’s frontline responders. The evaluation explored the indigenous-adaptations and participant outcomes of the first three of the six CSS sessions through participant, facilitator, and staff interviews. The sessions, offered virtually due to COVID-19, provided participants the knowledge and skills to support themselves, their clients, and the community in times of crisis. Future efforts will build on the culturally informed CSS approach to continue the healing journey for providers, clients, and the community at the Pueblo of Pojoaque.
