National Public Health Week April 2021

It’s National Public Health Week. Every year we dedicate this week to celebrate all things public health. If you are reading this post, then maybe you chose a career in public health. Or perhaps you are just starting your career in public health and looking for opportunities to change the world.

This is what I know for sure. The year that I decided to choose a career in public health was 1999. I was at Weber State University, and my advisor told me she thought it would be a promising career. At that time, I had no idea what public health was or what my job would be. It has been 22 years since I made that decision, and I have no regrets. A career in public health is a way of life. Many of us believe in public health’s mission and strive to ensure every person has the right to health. The challenge is to find ways to create health equity, social justice, and equal and fair opportunities for all-this is my challenge to you as a public health professional in 2021.
