It is a new year at AKA and we are so excited about what 2018 will bring. Our plans are big and we have identified several important areas for our work in communities. This year AKA will focus on really living our values in the work that we do: Presence in Community. Awareness. Listening. Kindness. Generosity. Humility. Honesty.
One question that I get asked is, “How do you work and live these values?” And my general response is that it is difficult. We live in a diverse world that is changing every minute. Our thoughts, feelings, and ideas about what is most important may shift throughout the day or even year. Our goal at AKA is to stay true to these values in all that we do.
We will also focus on investing our time and energy in the people that we serve. We believe that it just takes one person in a community to create change. When just one person learns a new skill, develops confidence, graduates from college, completes an internship, and more…. their community and family benefit. Over the years we have seen this law in action- we have witnessed the power of knowledge gained through education.
