Fifty Years of PL 93-638: Learning From Our Past, Planning for the Future of American Indian Health Governance

This editorial reflects on the 50-year legacy of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (PL 93-638) and its role in advancing Tribal control over health systems. The authors highlight both the progress made and the persistent barriers that continue to limit true Tribal self-governance in health care.
