In this blog, AKA Intern Jay Aguilar remembers his friend, Sean, who was a constant presence in the Nakoda Dakota Oyate (NDO) Youth Council on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. This remembering is important, with dozens of photos of Sean, evidence he was with us and in our work at SBRRC, in evaluations, and supporting healing, this blog honors his presence in our lives.
The N.D.O was created for experiences, geared for the youth that yielded much spirit. Everyone there shared memories while also working to better the community, so that we can be a better version of ourselves from yesterday. Sean represented all of this within his character, his nature was to be kind and friendly with those around him. When he first joined with N.D.O he was quiet, respectful with his peers and mentors, while always willing to help with any task.
As events passed he started smiling more, laughing more with his peers who have become friends. Appreciated in the kitchen he became a member that helped feed hundreds of people who came to participate. He also travelled to unity conferences that took place from Phoenix Arizona, to Portland Oregon. The mentors thought highly of Sean and appreciated all of his accomplishments through certificates from Mentorship Training. This was earned through classes with Dr. Clayton Small.
All of this comes from action, with a good heart to lead an example. N.D.O is honored to have Sean Forrest as a member that will live on through memory, experiences, and smiles that we all give each other everyday. We might not know what tomorrow holds but as long as we love each other, we can weather through anything. That is the spirit that makes N.D.O a beacon in the community.
